‘MINDA (민다)’ 정규1집 [out of ordinary]

What is ordinary? Is it a mechanism placed in our social circles to create a sense of belonging within our in-group or rather a type of conformity that influences our everyday behaviors and patterns? No matter the what the case is, this "ordinary" has a significant amount of influence in our daily lives. As part of a social group, we are always trying to "fit in" and side with the majority even if we know that the minority group is right. These days, people do not strive to think beyond and venture into the unknown with the fear that they might be excluded from their social group whether that be with their peers, society, or even family. These days, people strive to be "normal". This is a result of us creating a society, an environment where people are punished and given consequences for speaking the truth, performing moral acts, and doing what they want to do with their own life. The album [out of ordinary] is not only an album that caters to a wide audience because of its spectrum of music genres nor is it just a showcase of the talent, hard work, and time that the artist, MINDA, put into this piece of art. The album itself creates a musical universe where its listeners are taken to various locations that all give off different feelings and provides the listeners with diverse sounds that are not present in the music industry. However, it is a symbol as well as a starting point for not only the artist, but the listeners and moreover, the general public. It is a symbol that represents a diverse world where people, actions, and cultures can be accepted for what they are and not what they seem like. A place where people do not have to be fearful of the punishments they might receive but a place where people have the courage to do what they want. A place called [out of ordinary].

평범함 이란 무엇일까? 집단 사회 내에서 소속감을 형성하기 위한 메커니즘인가? 아니면 일상적인 행동과 패턴에 영향을 미치는 관습의 한 종류인가? 어떤 경우 든 이 '평범함'은 사람들의 일상생활에 상당한 영향을 끼친다. 사회의 일원으로서, 사람들은 항상 "어울리려고” 노력한다고 소수 집단이 옳다는 것을 알면서도 다수의 편에 서는 경우가 많다. 요즘에는 또래, 사회, 심지어 가족이란 집단 속에 사람들이 속해 있더라도 그 집단에서 추방될지도 모른다는 두려움 때문에 더 배우고, 알려고 노력하지 않는다. 결과적으로, 요즘 사람들은 "평범하기" 위해 노력한다. 결과적으로 진실을 말하고, 도덕적인 행위를 하고, 스스로의 삶을 누리는 사람들은 벌을 받고 차별을 받는다. 이것 또한 사회, 곧 우리가 만든 결과물이다. [out of ordinary]라는 앨범은 음악 장르의 스펙트럼만으로도 청중을 사로잡는 앨범이 될 뿐만 아니라, 아티스트 MINDA의 재능과 노력을 보여주는 쇼케이스라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 이것은 이 작품의 1차원적인 해석에 불과하다. 앨범 그 자체로는 다양한 감정을 지니고 있는 여러 장소에 청중을 데려가 현재 음악 산업에 존재하지 않는 MINDA만의 독특한 사운드를 제공하는 음악적 유니버스를 만들어낸다. 하지만, 이 앨범은 아티스트와 청중, 더 나아가 일반 대중들에게 있어 상징이자 출발점이다. 또한 문화, 행동 그리고 사람들이 겉모습이 아닌 있는 그대로 받아들여질 수 있는 세상을 대표하는 상징이다. 차별과 억압을 두려워할 필요가 없는 곳이며 자신이 원하는 것을 얻을 수 있는 용기를 낼 수 있는 곳. 그곳은 [out of ordinary]라고 불린다.
